What Are The Best Running Shoes?

February 4th, 2011 No comments

Many people have asked it time and time again: what pair can be considered to be the best running shoes? Is it something branded? Generic? Barefoot? The answers to that question will vary according to how many different people offer their own differing opinions on the subject. One thing most people can agree on though, is that the best running shoes is something subjective.

In other words, the answer is something that will depend on an individual’s tastes and personal preference. Still,

what are the best running shoes

what are the best running shoes

there are some points that are commonly attributed to the best running shoes no matter what the actual make and model of the shoes may be. Read on to find out what exactly these points are.

Running clothes or running apparel can be a bit hard to pick out. With so many choices in the market, first time runners might be confused as to what they should buy in order to get the most out of their money. Some people don’t even have the money to buy proper running shoes in the first place, and it is

important especially for people like these to know what they should look for when buying either females or mens running shoes.

Running, like any other strenuous physical activity, can result in injury if the use of proper clothing and equipment is overlooked. Besides improper running form, the lack of proper running shoes can lead to many unfortunate things like blisters, bone breakage, or shin splits. Proper running equipment is vital not only for serious runners but even for those who only c

onsider running as a hobby. More serious runners may require running trainers on most days, but even occasional joggers will find that the use of a good pair of running shoes can offer many benefits.

When looking for running shoes, the most important factor to consider is the fit. If the shoes don’t fit, not only will it look bad on the wearer, but it can also lead to serious injury if a runner trips or starts getting blisters because of the extra room between a runner’s foot and the inside of the shoe.

Another thing to consider is the material used for the sole. You’re going to want something that is compatible with the ground you will be running on. Also, it’s important for running shoes to have air vents and be breathable to reduce the risk of getting the dreaded athlete’s foot.

Overall, it is pretty easy to look for the best running shoes since there are quite a few things to look at. Getting them will be the best decision any runner can make concerning his or her own personal comfort and safety.

Safety Tips for Jogging at Night or the Early Morning

January 11th, 2011 No comments

In today’s busy world, it is hard to find the time to exercise, let alone daylight hours where you can run outside. Many people have schedules that require they jog at dawn, duck or even at night. If you plan to jog during the darker times of the day, there are a few additional safety issues that you need to address. The following guidelines will help keep you safe on your runs.

Choose a well lit route. Even if it is not your favorite jogging trail, always opt for a well lit route. That

said, be sure to mix it up. Would-be attackers often study jogging routes when targeting a victim.

Run with a friend. It’s always preferable to run with a friend, but if you must run alone, make sure you alert someone to your plan, including route and expected time.

Carry a cell phone. If you have a cell phone, you can call authorities if you suspect anything unusual or threatening.

Run against traffic. Always run towards the cars. This will ensure you see them even if they don’t see you

Wear a high visibility vest or jacket. Even at sunrise and sunset, a safety vest will vastly improve your visibility.

Wear a headlamp. Similar to a miner’s helmet, a headlamp will make you more visible to vehicles and illuminate the path in front of you, ensuring you do not twist an ankle or trip.

Carry identification. Keep some sort of personal identification on you on every run, be it a drivers license or ID tag. This will allow EMT’s to identify you if you are to have an accident.

Ditch your iPod. Running in the dark puts you at an immediate disadvantage, don’t add to that by cutting off your ability to hear around you. Leave your music player at home.

Running Shoes For Flat Feet

November 16th, 2010 No comments

In case you are thinking of buying a pair of running shoes for flat feet, you must understand that these kinds of running shoes vary than other normal shoes. For those who have flat feet, you will probably realize on your own having a running style characterized by intense overpronation. Overpronation implies that your particular feet roll inward excessively while you land as well as your step drives you forward. Running shoes for flat feet tend to be categorized as motion control running

shoes and therefore are designed to fit along with your running style, not differ it. They are made to absorb the collision of your feet on account of overpronation. Besides, they are also intended to shield your feet and ankle joint thru the midsole by providing additional cushioning. To put it succinctly, the running shoes are created to assist your overpronation and prevent you from getting hurt.

Acquiring the right running shoes implies searching through lots of detailed info. There is a tip for you to be able to pick the best pair, i.e. find what kind of feet you have got and purchase the running shoe devised for your form of feet.

y years, practically all of the running shoes manufacturers developed unique technology aimed at individuals who wish to purchase running shoes for flat feet so that they able to run in ease. Runners having flat foot need to remember these three keywords:- motion control, stability and support. Motion control running shoes are catered mostly for more significant overpronators, they concentrate on increasing balance and steadiness. Stability is undoubtedly a typical key phrase that you’ll notice in all running shoes and it is an industry standard. Support is exactly what flat foot runner wishes. Thus, when looking at running shoes review or specialized capabilities, any sign of further support is an extra edge for you personally.

There are some health issues you need to be aware of if you did not pick the right pair of running shoes for flat feet. You could possibly encounter instability with the flat sections of your respective feet towards top part of your leg. These circumstances might bring accidental injuries to your leg and knee while running. Your stability performance will be influenced, resulting in uncontrollable body movement.

Considering the fact that running shoes were made via the programs of runners, often times they include shock absorption and cushioning components for overall flexibility. Flat foot runners don’t demand shoes which have multiple layers of cushioning, because this will place on stress to the feet; consequently make it really discomfort to wear. For the best possible advantages, it is worthy to purchase running shoes for flat feet which have at least one layer of relieve pads but aren’t much too curve.

Awards For Athletes

November 3rd, 2010 No comments

With the athletics season almost at a close, the athletes of the world could be forgiven for taking a rest.  However it’s not just on the track and field that athletes find themselves competing against each other all year round.  Every year a select few athletes are awarded gongs for their achievements in their sport. The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) hold their prestigious World Athletics Gala annually, which rewards outstanding global athletic achievement

s, through a number of awards.

The highlight of this event is the announcement of the Male and Female World Athletes of the Year.  This year the IAAF has given the public the unique chance of helping to select the three finalists for both the Female & Male Athlete of the Year 2010. Great Britain only has one contender and that is World heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis. The 24 year old won the world indoor pentathlon and heptathlon gold at the European Championships this year.

French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre was named European Male Athlete of the Year.

Other Award ceremonies taking place are the Aviva Athletics Awards. These will be held at Loughborough University, which itself is a nationally and internation

ally recognised for its high level of teaching and research in the sport and exercise sciences.

Young emerging talent also gets a nod.  The European Athletics Rising Star Awards recognises the future male and female stars in the world of European athletics. It has proved to be a good indicator as Jessica Ennis won the title back in 2007. This year saw French triple jumper Teddy Tamgho and Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perkovic take the honours, so they will be two to watch out for in the coming seasons.

On the whole, it’s been a fairly good year for British athletics. Great Britain & N.I’s medal haul included 41 medals at the Commonwealth Games, 19 medals at the European Championships and 4 medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. So with less than 2 years to go until the curtain goes up on the 2012 Olympics, things look to be on track for our Britain & N.I athletes….let’s just hope the construction of all the venues are too!

Getting the Most Out of Athletics on Television with HDTV

October 26th, 2010 No comments

Sure, there are plenty of reasons to scrape together a bunch of cash and decide to watch a favorite team play live. If the stadium is only a short drive from home, rather than a plane flight across the country, the excitement of having the chance to tailgate and hang out with friends makes splurging on a ticket worthwhile. And if it’s not yet dumping snow–or of the sports fans in question have the good fortune to not live somewhere that this kind of weather is par for the course–then

getting the most out of athletics on television with hdtv

it’s even more exciting to get together with close buddies on a nice fall day and enjoy some great action or some delicious barbecue beforehand.

But for as many times as it sounds nice to do this, the reality of watching the game live might be something entirely different. For one thing, a whole lot of Americans don’t get to enjoy living right down the road from their favorite team’s stadium, meaning that seeing a game live and in person requires a whole lot more planning. And while ge

tting stuck in traffic once a year for a major alumni weekend football game might be worthwhile, the fact that this is one’s fate for going to a whole lot of other games isn’t quite as exciting. So for those who are sports fans not living in the town where their favorite matches take place, it makes a whole lot more sense to look at equally great, but more affordable and reasonable, ways of watching the game.

One of the best ways to watch any sport is not from the bleachers, but from th

e comfort of one’s own home. And this is a whole lot more feasible now that satellite tv is so popular. Because of the fact that you can pick up a number of different channels that cover the games in question, there’s no worrying about whether or not a particular game will be showing live on a particular day. Various different packages make it possible to catch all of the action of a number of different sports, but without the stress or the worrying about whether or not there is going to suddenly be a black-out, or if the game will end up not being on after all. So going with the dish for any kind of sports coverage certainly makes the most sense.

Beyond that, there’s the matter of upgrading to a better picture quality, and this can make all of the difference between dealing with the stress of the local sports bar or sticking with the option to watch from home. Since HDTV sets are now a whole lot more affordable than before, it’s possible to get a picture quality that’s far better than being stuck in the cheap seats, but without spending a considerable chunk of money. And at the same time, investing in a cooler television set is also a nice way to appease those family members who might not be quite as keen on the amount of athletics being watched during the weekend.

Massage Therapy And Triathlon – A Happy Marriage?

Massage Therapy And Triathlon – A Happy Marriage?

By Jason Bahamundi www.baha703ironman.com

A triathlete is one who participates in a triathlon as defined by Merriam-Webster, and a triathlon is an athletic contest that is a long-distance race consisting of three phases (as swimming, bicycling, and running.)  A massage therapist is defined as one who manipulates the tissue with the hand or an instrument for therapeutic purposes.  How do these two diversely different terms become a

massage therapy and triathlon a happy marriage

lmost connected at the hip?

A triathlete doesn’t just compete in the race and go home.  They will typically put in hours and hours in the pool followed by hours and hours on the road whether it is on a bike or running.  All this time spent training for an event puts a lot of stress on the muscles, especially if they are training for a ½ Ironman or Ironman distance event.  The training for shorter distance events (aptly named Sprints or Olympic) still takes a toll on the body and can do da

mage to muscles.

The stress from running on a human can be immense depending on the size of the person as well as the physical shape they are in.  These injuries can be around the knee, shins and ankles but also involved the potential for pulled muscles if not warmed up and stretched properly.

Since a triathlete is not just running, but also swimming and cycling it is more important to stretch and warm-up since you will be using different muscles through all three phases.  During the swim

Category › Track and Field

Title › Massage Therapy And Triathlon – A Happy Marriage?

while the kick is important, the muscles that you will be using are in your shoulder in back.  In the cycling portion your quadriceps are more engaged followed by running which brings your hamstrings into play.

Your body is going through tough rigors and without the proper preventative measures can lead to serious injury.  Warming up prior to a training session and/or race will involve dynamic stretching as well as doing the actual portions in a low HR zone so as not to feel fatigued prior to the start of the race.  Once the race or training is done then static stretching is recommended.

So what other types of preventative measures can one take?  This is where massage therapy enters the picture.  As the definition points out, a massage therapist is one who manipulates the tissue for therapeutic purposes.  What that means for runners, swimmers and cyclists is that you have the ability to recover quicker after a long day of training, a race or a big block (possibly week long) of training.

Massage increases the blood flow to muscles to help speed the healing process by flushing out metabolic waste.  By having the muscle healed faster an athlete can resume training at a quicker pace and build up their strength to compete at a higher level then before.  In addition to healing quicker, a massage will allow an athlete the opportunity to reconnect with their body.  The mind will be able to decipher which muscles are sore/fatigues and need to be treated more often.  It can bring awareness to those areas that are not functioning properly and in the long run help prevent injury.

A recreational athlete should see a massage therapist once per week to once per month.  They should build a strong relationship with their massage therapist the same way the do with a trainer or coach.  Continually going to the same therapist will allow that person to understand the athlete’s body and be able to detect areas that are not responding properly and decide on a course of action.  In addition to understanding the body, the masseuse will know what type of massage is necessary at that point in the racing/training cycle.

A good rule of thumb is to get a massage at the beginning of the week of a race so that your muscles are not so relaxed that the body takes longer to get acclimated to the racing speed.  Receiving a massage will put the athlete in a tranquil mood and while that is wonderful for the mind, the body needs to be capable of racing and be able to stand the rigors of the race.  In addition to getting a massage early on race week it is recommended to get one immediately after a race and if that is not possible at least within one day and with their regular therapist.

And while it is important to visit a massage therapist regularly it is also important to do self massage.  Be sure to have a foam roller at the very least and roll your hamstrings, quads and calves on the roller to move the metabolic waste around in between visits to your

Greyhound racing is a sport that started in the mid of 1850s when it became one of the most enjoyed sports enjoyed by a range of spectators. The races were met with a range of challanges. Racing greyhounds came back on track after the Second World War when a group of spectators, one of the largest of its kind for a sport, came together and watched the greyhound racing events. Since then with new mediums of sporting and entertainment derived, there was a downfall in the popularity of grey

Over the past decade, there have been new developments in the greyhounds racing industry. Development in track facilities, and beter trained greyhounds made the events more enjoyable. The sporting complex that shows greyhounds racing has more superior amenities than in previous years, which keeps the spectators coming back. Special areas for kids keep them good company.

Check the newcomers to the race. If there was a name that came first in the last race, has a chance of wining the next race (the chances are it may come second). Otherwise, it’s time to analyze every other dog the same way. Check their 1/8th call to find results of their last race. Circle the ones which are moving up in their grades.
