Running Barefoot (In Shoes!?)

October 24th, 2011 No comments

When I was a child growing up in Southern California, I spent my summer vacations barefoot, mostly at the beach. To get to the beach, I could use the streets for about three miles, or I could use a rough trail down an embankment, across railroad tracks and along a creek bed for one mile. Being lazy, I chose the shortcut. Walking barefoot over the rugged terrain took a little getting used to when school first let out each summer, especially the sharp rocks they used for the

railroad bed. Soon, however, I was running to and from the beach or any place else I went, sharp rocks and all, without injury or even discomfort. I laugh when I think back on it because now I wince when I go to the mail box barefoot.

Anyway, you can learn to run barefoot if you work up to it gradually. Unfortunately, unlike when I was a kid, going without shoes all summer as an adult is almost socially unacceptable these days. However, a lot of precedence for barefoot running exists

. For example, Kenya has produced many world class athletes who have run their entire lives barefoot. Many became national champions in Kenya running barefoot. Shoe companies would sometimes offer to sponsor internationally recognized runners if they agreed to wear the company’s shoes. For runners like them or for runners like me who want the benefits of running barefoot but not the pain, a compromise, the minimalist running shoe, is in order.

Half Marathon Training For Beginner Runners

Some tops tops for Half Marathon training

Your running shoes are perhaps essentially the most significant item of apparel. They must be comfy and mould to your feet well. It is undoubtedly one area where you can not manage to go for the low-cost choice, as low-priced trainers are unlikely to get the sturdiness to withstand your marathon training. You ought to be aiming to commit nearly anything upwards of £60 and it is actually likely that you will need two pairs to last you

I won’t be able to stress the importance of selecting a good quality pair of running footwear on your beginner half marathon training. What ever pair of running footwear you chose, just before you buy them, It is actually recommended to get your running stride analysed, in order that you can be suggested w

The BestWays To Boost Metabolism

October 7th, 2011 No comments

Some of the ways to boost metabolism include changes to your diet and changes to your exercise routine.

Even if you run regularly and are careful about your diet it can sometimes seem that there is perhaps a little too much round the tummy or thighs and sometimes you just don’t have the energy you feel you should have. Maybe you tried to run more or eat less but all that happened is that you got tired and hungry. This could be because your metabolism is slowing down. If you ar

There are three types of metabolism at work in your body. They are:

Basal Metabolism,

Activity Metabolism,

Thermic Metabolism.

This is your resting metabolism. Surprisingly basal metabolism accounts for about 60% of all calories burnt during the day. These are t

Journey Into Buying Running Gear

September 20th, 2011 No comments

When you are interested in trying a new sport what is the first thing you do?  I know I look for the gear to go with the sport.  That is why when I was challenged to take part in a five kilometer race in November I started to seek out advice on the running gear I would need.  Right off the bat I found the two essential things I would come to need were a supportive bra and the right pair of shoes.

I thought I would have no problems.  I would go to any store get a pair of tenni

s shoes and a sports bra and I would be on my way.  Of course that is not how it happened but I thought it would.  The bra was an entire issue all itself.  Not all runners have an A or B cup but the bras available in stores would have you assuming they do.  I did have to special order a style online and am happy with the choices available to me.  Shoes were abundant but I found finding the right pair for my foot and running style were a bit trickier.

The first thing I was told was that I needed to narrow down the pronation of my foot when running.  Thankfully I had worn my old tennis shoes.  From them they were able to determine that I had a pretty uniform wear pattern.  This meant that I was going to be choosing a stability style running shoe.

How to Increase Running Speed Without a Lot of Money

June 26th, 2011 No comments

Many people seek to learn how to increase running speed, for a variety of different reasons. While some of the rich and famous athletes are able to hire a personal trainer and travel to the best gyms in the world without a blink of an eye, this is unfortunately not the case for the average runner. However, there are some ways to discover how to increase running speed without spending a fortune, many times for free.

The key to how to increase running speed is in the muscles. By

increasing the number of fast-twitch muscles and strengthening already existing muscles, running speed can be increased over time with some honest hard work.

Anyone fortunate enough to live near a beach should take advantage of the potential to run in the sand. Running in deep sand in particular strengthens the bulky calve muscles, as well as the abs and glutes. While some runners prefer to run barefoot in the sand, others would rather wear tennis shoes. The choice is personal, but be awa

Practice lunges to work on hamstrings and quads. After a sensible warm-up period, select a pair of barbells appropriate to your abilities and strength. Holding one in each hand, perform two or three sets of ten lunges.

At the gym, utilize the benefits of the hamstring curl machine for your glutes and hamstrings. Initially select a lighter weight to begin with. Lying on your stomach, curl you

r heels around the hamstring curl machine. Hold onto the side arm handles and press your tailbone down. Bending both knees together, exhale as you lift, and inhale as you slowly release the weight back down. This is just one additional method.

Naturally, running itself will improve your speed. Whether it is on a track, a treadmill, or a jogging path, keep this practice up while alternating additional exercises into your workout routine. Interval training is also a good method of increasing speed, switching between natural jogging speed and sprints. Feel free to time yourself of sprints of the same distance to gage your progress.

Also, working out in the pool can also greatly benefit your running speed. Start out with a few laps to warm up, and then stand in the shallow end of the pool. Run from side to side as fast as you can for a few times. Gyms should also have leg weights available for rental or purchase. These are great for strength training in the pool, providing additional resistance for anyone learning how to increase their speed.

Anyone looking for tips on how to increase running speed without spending a lot of money should soon find that these exercises do indeed help improve running speed. As with any exercise regimen, physician guidance is always highly recommended. For more information visit our links below.
