How To Make Tennis Confidence The Key To Your Success

February 12th, 2010 No comments

Tennis Confidence?

You don’t need to know the exact science behind what makes some people more confident than others, but you know how important it is. How did Borg, McEnroe, Evert, Navratilova, Lendl, Graf, Sampras, Agassi, Hennin, Federer, Venus, Serena, Rafa etc come up with the big plays when it really mattered?

Why did you expect them to do it?

Also, why did (names omitted to spare the players in question) alsways seem to get so far but when it really mattered always seem to

fall apart?

Confidence!!

Why do some have it and most don’t?

Like I said, you don’t need to know the exact science behind confidence, but you do need to understand the “tricks of the trade” and be working on improving yours. One of those is preparation.

Why is preparation so important? It helps to develop your muscle memory which allows you to deliver skills at an unconscious level – without thinking about it.

Preparation (if done correctly) also allows you to adjust.

Why is Federer confident to go for an ace when faced with a break point and a second serve?

He is confident to go for it because he has practised that serve so many times. Like I said, preparation is only one of the techniques to improving confidence.

You can learn all the tricks & techniques that can escalate your game to new heights, by checking out – The Tennis Confidence Program (mental toughness for

The Tennis Volley – Federer Secret Weapon

February 11th, 2010 No comments

The tennis volley has seen an interesting yet welcome return to the game in recent months.

Having just watched Federer’ power through to the Australian Open title, one thing sprung to mind.

He is beginning to volley a whole lot more.

And it’s not only Federer, many more players are beginning to volley again.

Federer & Tsonga we know about, Andy Murray & Andy Roddick yes of course but Davydenko, Nadal & Del Potro??

Some of these guys used to get altitude sickness just by thin

king about moving up the court to the net.

So why do it?

Well it’s simple!

The easiest place to win a tennis point from is at the net.

Whether or not you can do it or not doesn’t matter – it’s a fact!!

The other big factor is that it presents a totally different set of problems to the player stuck on the baseline.

Q. What’s the one thing out and out baseliners get used to and therefore grooved into when they play other players that only play from the baseline?

A. The ball comin

g back to them from the baseline!!

So, someone coming to the net gives them a completely different “view” of the game and a completely different set of shots to play.

Definitely a set of shots they hardly ever play on a match to match basis and maybe a set of shots they may never have played!!

Suddenly, they have to come up with other shots than just keeping the ball deep in the court.

If they do that then it’s an easy volley and the end of the point.

But what is the take away for y

ou?

What is it that you need to think about doing in your game to make this work for you?

Well, all the things I said above are true, plus this fact.

The hardest shot in club tennis is the passing shot.

This means that you don’t have to become really good at the volley to be effective.

You just have to give your opponent more chances to miss……….and they will.

And we all know that they won’t always miss because of poor technique don’t we??

They will also miss because of the mental pressure you are putting on them.

It goes back to a principle that is a foundation of tennis strategy and the cornerstone of my ” BeatAll The Tennis Players YouWant ” Special Report.

To give yourself the best chance of winning a tennis match you want to be doing more of the things that you like doing or know will help you win whilst giving your opponent lots of things that they don’t like or are difficult to execute!!

If you play an opponent who struggles against people who come to the net and you are unable to pressure them in this way – you are missing a big trick!!!

So, if all you do is stay at the back of the tennis court and hit groundstrokes and the only time you get to the net is to shake hands and pick up balls…..think again!!

Get the volley working for you and start winning more singles matches – today!!

And we haven’t even started talking about doubles yet!!

From the History of Tennis

January 23rd, 2010 No comments

The origins of tennis game, as any other game of racket and ball, are traditionally credited to 11th or 12th century French game paume which was played with the hand and later advanced into jeu be paume with the use of rackets. However, not all historians agree on this subject. There is a theory that the word tennis comes from the name of Tinnis, a town in ancient Egypt, and the word racket – from rahat, meaning ‘palm of the hand’ in Arabic. It is believed that different versions of the ga

me were played in ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece, although there is no additional evidence to that.

The balls initially used in tennis were made of hair, wool or cork wrapped in cloth or leather. The true history of tennis begins in the 1850’s, when Charles Goodyear, of Goodyear tire fame invented vulcanized rubber, and the first rubber tennis balls were introduced to the world. The vulcanization of rubber is a process that prevents natural rubber from deteriorating so quickly. Nowadays, ten

By the 14th century the game became so popular, both the Pope and Louis IV tried to ban it unsuccessfully. Tennis soon spread to England, where it obtained the “royal game” title. Both Henry VII and Henry VIII were keen players who ensured the building of more courts. One of them, Hampton Court, built in 1625, is

still used today.

Walter Clopton Wingfield is usually given credit for the invention of modern tennis. He actually patented the game in 1874, pronounced a new set of rules and moved tennis from indoors to outdoors. The same year first tennis courts appeared in the United States, and shortly after that in Russia, India, Canada and China.

The first tennis championship was held in 1877 in Wimbledon, and is still considered the most prestigious one. US Open came into being a while later in 1881.  Now there are four Grand Slam tennis tournaments: US Open, French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Sony Ericsson Open was founded in 1985 by a tennis player Butch Buchholz with the aim to make it number one tennis tournament of the year, or at least second after Wimbledon. His attempt failed, although this championship is considered to be the 5th most important tennis event of the year. It is traditionally held in Florida in March-April, the prize money is $9 million, and Sony Ericsson tennis tickets can cost up to $2000.

Another new season of tennis is upon us as the Aussie Open is underway.  The women’s side of tennis is certainly interesting with Justine Henin back, but this article will focus on the men’s tour.

Things will certainly be interesting in men’s tennis this year.  It’s one of the

the race for 1 in pro tennis

first years in recent memory where fans legitimately believe that more than just two players have a chance at finishing on top.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have had a profound impact on the sport and remain the top two in the game, but their leads aren’t as comfortable as they once used to be.  As a result, it’s time to list a few more players who may finish at the top.  Let’s look at the contenders.

Last year, Federer’s dominance was threatened by Rafael Nadal, who legitimately owned the Swiss legend in their head to head matchups.  Having beaten him in the finals at the Australian Open and Wimbledon the prior year, Nadal looked to be the likely heir to the throne.  Still, he has injury issues that tend to get i

n the way.

Out of nowhere last year came Juan Martin Del Potro, a young sensation from Argentina who seemingly came out of nowhere to stun the world when he defeated Roger Federer in the finals of the US Open last year.  Many believe that he could very likely finish the year at number one.

Then, there are two final players who will both have a go at the throne.

From Serbia comes Novak Djokovic, a player whose potential has long been known.  Unfortunately, the talent of Federer and Nadal has been too great for him to surpass.  This could change though, and 2010 could be his breakout year.

One final player worth mentioning is Andy Murray.  Since he reached the world’s number two rank last year, his consistent showing at major events could put him in a position to surprise many fans should he capture a slam or two.

Justine Henin Vs. Elena Dementieva Live Streaming

Justin Henin and Elena Dementieva blitzed their first-round opponents, two sacrificial lambs who already have been lost to history. Which means just one thing:

Let’s get ready to ruuuuuuuummmble!

That’s right, in just the second round, two serious contenders for the Australian Open crown are set to meet. The survivor — and make no mistake, this will be a sword-clanging, dirt-tossed-in-the-eyes battle — is going to come out bloodied b

ut exhilarated. Expect her to charge confidently into the semifinals at the very least, despite being in a very difficult quarter.

So which one will it be? Both women looked pretty good during their warm-up laps. Henin, in her first tournament in 18 months, slugged her way to the Brisbane final, where she came very close to beating Kim Clijsters. Dementieva, meanwhile, slapped aside Serena Williams to win in Sydney.

Even though she’s still getting used to being in a locker room again, the

unseeded Henin has to be considered the favorite, for one simple reason: She has a lot more experience winning big matches. She knows there’s a shockingly empty feeling that comes with holding up a Grand Slam trophy — all these years of hitting tennis balls and this is it? — and so she’s not out on court looking for validation or love. She’s doing it simply to feel that sweet pressure in the lungs when you hit a ball just right, that incorruptible feeling of youth and beauty and lightnes

s. Oh, yeah, and to win Wimbledon. Which is six months away. The seven-time Grand Slam champion is still in preparation mode, feeling her oats — and that makes her very dangerous.

The 28-year-old Dementieva, on the other hand, hasn’t yet won a major, having come up short in two finals (way back in ’04) and innumerable semis. The Beijing Olympics was a glorious win for her — and a very big thing back home in Russia. But it’s still not one of the Big Four. In the tennis world, the world in which she lives, it’s about comparable to winning Rome — a nice piece of work, but not exactly Geronimo’s scalp.

And yet … I’m picking Dementieva. Part of this is simply a journalist’s personal preference (even though we’re not supposed to have them). I interviewed Henin a few years ago, and she was polite and politic and … well, impenetrable. Of course, Justine’s no more unknowable to outsiders than, say, Rafa or Roger, but at least Rafa and Roger give off unmistakable hints of being human. Same goes for Dementieva. She’s lived happily in the shadow of the more glamorous blond Russian, Maria Sharapova, her entire mature career (she reached her two major finals the same year Maria won Wimbledon). She treats fans with respect, shyly signing autographs for anyone who asks. And, most endearingly, she made everyone feel her pain back in the days when she hit a serve like a walrus slapping high-fives. Having the fifth-seeded Dementieva’s name etched onto the winner’s cup two Sundays from now would make this the feel-good Slam of the year.

I’m also picking her because she’s playing better tennis than Henin right now. And that, in the end, should be the determining factor. It almost always is when the top men play. It’s time for that to be the case for the ladies, too.
