As a player Guardiola was part of the most glorious generation in the history of the club, which became known as the Dream Team. That squad coached by Dutch Johan Cruyff won four La Liga championships in a row and one UEFA Champions League title displaying a top-class game that awakened the admiration from the world between 1990 and 1994.

nding another generation of players that could take the game to such exquisite levels was something that many thought was impossible, especially in times where tactics and money overshadowed the essence of the game: having fun. The equation worked out better than expected for him, since in his debut year the team won the six titles that it disputed, which included the prestigious UEFA Champions League. The next year they secured another La Liga title and made the promise to their fans of making it to the Champions League final next year to be disputed at Wembley. And that was exactly what they just did this past Saturday after having won their third La Liga crown, the team stood true to their word and made into Wembley.

The best of their game was seen there against a powerful Manchester United that seemed like the only team that could put an end to their hegemony, but like all of Barcelona’s rivals they ended up surrendered at their feet.

With goals from Pedro, Messi and David Villa they defeated Man U 3-1 and raised their fourth Champions League trophy in club history, and second under Guardiola’s orders, guided by a superb Messi that ended as the top scorer of the tournament for third season in a row, this time with 12 goals.

Despite the success Guardiola prefers the low profile and avoids comparisons with the Dream Team, but it is clear more that cleared that not even the most prodigious football mind could have dreamed a team like his.  Now Guardiola’s Barcelona is the inspiration of all those clubs that had only focused in results, forgetting about the beauty of the game.

Manchester City will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the City of Manchester Stadium for an English Premier League fixture. Harry Redknapp’s Spurs have hit a low but if they are to qualify for Europe without counting on other results then Spurs have to win every

Man City drew with Spurs earlier in the season in a game at White Hart Lane that saw no goals. In this same fixture last season the Eastland’s team lost to the visiting Spurs team by a goal to nil. That will not be good news for the home team but they already seem to have qualified for the Champion’s League as they have a seven point lead over Liverpool at the beginning of the weekend before the Spurs game.

Spurs have drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last four games and that will mean

they could lack the winning mentality needed to beat Roberto Mancini’s Man City at home. If Tottenham pick up the points then that would put them back in control of their future again as Liverpool have played more games than Spurs with the same points.

A little further down the league you can find Manchester City (Alex Ferguson’s noisy neighbours) in 4th and Tottenham Hotspur, in 5th. Those two teams meet on Tuesday night and hope to make their season end with a bit of a bang.

Tottenham no

w sit six points behind City in the race for fourth and know that anything short of a win up in Manchester on Tuesday night will mathematically finish off their hopes of cracking the top four as they did last year.

Last year we had another 4th place chase between these two sides, it was decided at the City of Manchester Stadium also in May, where Tottenham Hotspur managed a 0-1 victory thanks to a single goal from human beanpole Peter Crouch. The result gave the Londoners a place in the Champions League, at the expense of Mancini’s men. Most sportsbooks have Tottenham doing the it again at around 25/1, although some oddsmakers have them as high as 40/1.

At present City have 62 points (and a +21 goal difference) while Spurs have 56 (and +7 goals), both teams have three games left to play. There is also the resurgent Liverpool too consider. The Scousers (under King Kenny) could manage an upset and leapfrog both City and Spurs (Liverpool are currently on 55 points ahead of their match against Fulham), so both Manchester and Tottenham won’t want to lose any points at this stage.

In the 2nd group stage there were 4 more teams that we eliminated from play. The teams included some solid teams such as Yugoslavia, Argentina, Sweden and East Germany. This was a tough loss for East Germany as they were so close to their homes but they were unable to place in the tournament.

 

The third place finisher in the tournament was Poland. Poland was a solid team and they managed to beat out Brazil for the 3rd place spot in the tournament. This left Brazil as the 4th place finisher in the tournament.

 

The two teams remaining were the Netherlands and West Germany. These teams played hard, but in the end only one team would be able to claim the title as champion. West Germany was the home team and they managed to win the game in front of their home crowd. This was a great finish for West Germany.
