Electricity grids and peak demand response

It’s a delicate balance the Detroit Red Wings are trying to strike right now, still trailing the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in a Western Conference Semifinal series.

On the one hand, despite riding two straight wins while facing elimination, they’re still down 3-2 in the series after dropping the first three. So they’re trying to say all the right things. where to buy cheap NHL Jerseys?ujersy is a good choice.

ct the Sharks can end their season and the series in Game 6 on Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena (8 p.m. Versus, TSN). Yet, on the other hand there’s also an air of confidence starting to creep into their comments — such as those given on Monday afternoon after returning from San Jose.

Standing in front of the team plane, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock was asked how much he wanted to get back on it Wednesday for a return trip to San Jose to play a Game 7 at HP Pavilion.

“Oh, we’re getting on it,”

Babcock said, matter-of-factly.

Detroit General Manager Ken Holland was only slightly less confident when asked the same.

“That’s what’s got us to this point,” Holland said. “When we were down 3-0, nobody wanted to go home. We plan to be flying back for Game 7.”

Some may view those comments as ill-advised bravado, especially for a team that’s reported to have injuries limiting stars Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen.

5 on Sunday night, didn’t take a single faceoff and has been said to be battling a wrist or hand injury. Franzen is dealing with a sore ankle that was hurt in the first round on a hit by Shane Doan, hasn’t been able to skate well and didn’t play in the third period of Game 5.

Datsyuk, who Babcock said is Detroit’s best faceoff winner, says he feels fine. He even tried to downplay not taking draws by stating, “I’m not good at faceoffs.”

There’s no denying Franzen’s injury, however.

Babcock was asked on Sunday night about his availability for Game 6 and said it will be up to Franzen to decide whether he’s healthy enough. Holland sounded like it might be time to let 40-year old veteran Mike Modano get into the lineup for the first time in this series if Franzen can’t go — which will be the plan if “The Mule” sits out. recommend directory: Jordan Staal #12 Carolina Hurricanes black NHL Jersey.

Modano has only played one other playoff game this postseason — Game 4 against the Phoenix Coyotes — and the Westland, Mich., native is anxious to contribute more in his first postseason as a Red Wing.

“(Franzen) has to be better than he was yesterday because he wasn’t able to finish the game,” Holland said. “Modano is chomping at the bit.”

Interesting phrase to use, because the Sharks will be even more determined to chomp on the Red Wings and end this series before it even gets to a Game 7.

If Detroit were a team full of less experienced players, that might be a bigger concern.

Instead, this is where the Red Wings’ lineup featuring several older, highly-decorated veterans factors into the equation. Many teams would hit the panic button when down 3-0 in a series. Not the Red Wings.

It starts with the captain, 41-year old defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom, and extends to the likes of Tomas Holmstrom, Niklas Kronwall, Henrik Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Franzen.

“There’s a calmness,” second-year goalie Jimmy Howard said of Detroit’s mood when falling behind 3-0 in the series. “There’s a lot of experience in our dressing room and when your leaders have been through a lot, you just look to them. When you see (Lidstrom’s) face and see how calm he is, it just trickles down.”

That might be the inspiration behind the confident talk from Babcock and Holland, hoping it seeps down into the locker room. None of the Red Wings players were quite as brazen, but at least Datsyuk had a humorous spin on it.

When asked about getting back on the plane for a possible Game 7 in San Jose, Datsyuk looked at the plane, smiled and said: “Of course … I’m happy. Have good seats there.”  recommend directory: Eric Staal #12 Carolina Hurricanes All-star 2011 NHL Jersey.

Sharks hope to have momentum after comeback win

April 21st, 2011 No comments

Devin Setoguchi slept well after finally getting to bed early Wednesday morning, a few hours after he completed the San Jose Sharks’ remarkable 6-5 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings in Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinal series. where to buy cheap NHL Jerseys?ujersy is a good choice.

“I was pretty tired so I went to bed around 1 o’clock and I just woke up a couple hours ago,” he said a little before noon Wednesday following a team meeting at the Sharks hotel.

etoguchi’s goal at 3:09 of the extra period capped the Sharks comeback from a 4-0 deficit and gave the team a 2-1 series lead heading into Thursday night’s contest at the Staples Center.

The Sharks became just the fourth team in playoff history to overcome a deficit of four or more goals — the first since Minnesota rallied to beat Chicago 5-4 on April 28, 1985.

“It was obviously a pretty exciting game for everyone,” said Setoguchi, who accepted a pass from Patrick Marleau on a 3-on-2 rush

Setoguchi, who had five game-winning goals in the regular season, said he watched replays of his heroics “a couple of times” on television after getting back to his room before getting some well-deserved rest.

ss and I just tried to shoot as fast as I could,” he said. “It was definitely a good feeling, but today you have to be a little humble. We’ll get a little workout in today and start fresh.”

As exciting as the comeback was for the Sharks, coach Todd McLellan made sure to point out to his players that a repeat performance isn’t likely, and that the team can’t afford to have an emotional letdown.

“Our group, when we woke up this morning felt pretty good about ourselves because of the comeback,” McLellan said. “As a coaching staff we have to remind them that there are 21 minutes that were played earlier in the game when we weren’t very good. There will be a balance between good and bad and there will be a very — I don’t want to say stern –reminder that an emotional letdown and a lack of professionalism will not allow us to advance in Game 4.”

The Sharks didn’t respond well in Game 2, a 4-0 loss, following their 3-2 overtime win in the series opener. recommend directory: Paul Mara #22 Montreal Canadiens third blue NHL Jersey.

“Maybe in Game 2 we were riding a little bit high,” Setoguchi said. “We got knocked down a peg or two there.”

The Sharks have had two poor starts in a row. They fell behind 2-0 in the first period of Game 2 when the Kings got power-play goals from Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty.

They gave up goals to Willie Mitchell and Kyle Clifford 13 seconds apart in the first 2:39 of Tuesday’s game, and Brad Richardson’s goal 44 seconds into the second period gave the Kings what appeared to be a commanding 4-0 lead.

Rather than panic, calm heads prevailed in the Sharks locker room Tuesday during each of the first two intermissions.

“It was just calm, to be honest with you,” team captain Joe Thornton said Wednesday. “It was really, ‘We know we have a great chance here to do something special.’ Everybody kind of took some deep breaths and getting some energy back into their system and getting ready to go.”

McLellan said that yelling and screaming at players wouldn’t have accomplished anything.

“Between the first and second period we went in the locker room,” he said. “We talked a little bit about our effort and about our commitment level, which I actually thought was higher than what it was in Game 2. We talked about how the game could evolve by scoring one (goal) and getting them to tighten up and we went from there.

“Between the second and third we basically left them alone. We said, ‘It’s in their hands now. This is a really abnormal game. They have some momentum, let’s leave them alone.’ I think it starts with your captain. He was vocal between periods and was saying the right things.”

Thornton’s calming words helped settle younger players like Logan Couture, who scored one of the Sharks’ five second-period goals.

“It was just a feeling that someone was going to step up and score that big goal for us,” he said. “We dug ourselves a hole, but there was a long way to go. It was good to he

The Checkerboard Coaching Technique sm and the Key to Winning the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2011′

The key to winning the Stanley Cup this year is very different than in any other year in history.  The key to winning the Stanley Cup in 2011′ is to be a team that recognizes this. Why is it different this year you ask?  For one thing the Board of Govenors met this spring and realize that the penalties must be called and since that meeting my guess is game ejections and penalties are

both up.  No more violent hits to key players or any player in the league.

That offers the players the freedom to move a little easier and puts the breaks on any player or team that thinks it is the same old game in 2011′.  Seven or eight penalties to one team will cost them the series, if it happens game after game.

The other dynamic is face book and twitter and you tube and the access they all offer to instant information. The great play from the evening before, that resulted in a go

al is availalble on you tube so everyone can view the thrill of the game.  At the same time every team in the league is aware of the play too and how to stop it.  In the bad old days a player would simply be taken out by a goon.  Crush him, concuss him, legal or illegal hits were good. Just stop him from doing his thing.

In Stanley Cup Race 2011′ it appears the penalties will be called and dealt with severly.  The one legal hit that is the cause of a lot of the injuries is the open ice

hit.  I suspect they will be watched closely as well, because there are plenty of reasons to call a penality on those as well.  With the birth of the age of the Smart Phone, a new NHL is emerging to let the great part of the talent in each player be highlighted not destroyed.  Every player can mimic every great play they view the night before.  As they go to the rink they can watch it on their i pad in slow motion just to be sure they have it all.

As the players tweet to their girl friends on the way to the rink, the girl friends are sending videos to them of them scoring from a week ago, each player is connected.  The players are smarter as a result and they can react in a day, and sometimes in a shift. The key to winning the Stanley Cup in 2011′ will be the team that scores the most unintended goals.  It means shoot in traffic, don’t wait, shoot toward the goal from every angle. If you can swing your stick hard enough to have the puck go to the net with speed and direct intent, shoot.  A pro hockey player can have a wrist shot on less than 4 inches of ice space. Shoot.  If any goalie has to face sixty to seventy shots on goal a night, that’s only one a minute, how strong can he stay?  If a percentage are from extream angles then what?  The goalies will be trapping the puck, holding on, in an attempt to slow the game down.   The thought has to be stay on task, shoot low, be ready for the rebound.  If any team does that, they win it all.

Reebok 8K Pump Inline Hockey Skate Overview

March 29th, 2011 No comments

I like to keep things simple when it comes to writing, so with that being said, lets cover some features of the Reebok 8K Pump Inline Hockey Skate starting from the ground up.

Wheels and Bearings:

Equipped with the Rink Rat Hornet wheel, this is the perfect wheel for the high level indoor inline hockey player.  It is rated at a XXX softness and equipped with Rink Rats patented M-Tech technology, making for excellent grip and explosive acceleration.  Paired with ABEC 9 rated beari

The Tri-Di Lite Chassis that you will find on the 8K is made from extruded aluminum with the following front to back wheel configuration (72mm-76mm-76mm-80mm).  The extruded aluminum chassis is very light weight and stiff which will be great for optimizing a skaters energy transfer.  The wheel configuration helps get the skater lower to the ground to help with their center of gravity and a correcting skati

Boot and The Pump:

Starting with the outsole on the boot, the 8K has a full composite outsole that not only reduces the overall weight of the skate but also helps in making the skate stiffer.  The quarters of the boot are combination of polyester and synthetic leathers, creating a very lightweight and durable design.  The Pump is hands down the best skate technology since sliced bread!  The air bladders in the heel portion of the boot do a great job conforming the skate to ev

Sizing:

When trying this skate on I noticed that it was a touch wider in the toe box compared to most Mission and Bauer skates.  I am right between a D and an E width for normal shoes and decided to go with the standard D width as these run a little wider than other skate companies.  Also I went directly with Reebok sizing recommendations with 1.5 sizes smaller than your regular US shoe size.  Here is a Size Chart if you have any questions or concerns about sizing.

Overall:

I found the Reebok 8K Pump Inline Skate to be a great value for the money.  It is an upper end skate for the intermediate to advanced level players that are looking for a great skate without breaking the bank.  So what are you waiting for?  Say goodbye to buyers remorse and treat yourself to a pair, I have no regreats with my decision!

Banged-up Coyotes could be without five key pieces

March 11th, 2011 No comments

When the Phoenix Coyotes had the best season in franchise history in 2009-10, team health played a big role in their success.

This season, however, more injuries have made the road a lot harder, and the stretch run is no different. The Coyotes, who have lost nearly 100 man-games to injury already, could be without as many as five key players — three of them defensemen — when they face the Calgary Flames in a huge battle at Jobing.com Arena Thursday. where to buy cheap NHL Jerseys?ujers

Defenseman Ed Jovanovski is out indefinitely following orbital bone surgery, and fellow blueliner Derek Morris missed Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to Vancouver with a lower-body injury. Rostislav Klesla, acquired from Columbus in the Scottie Upshall deal to replace Jovanovski, had a Daniel Sedin shot ride up his stick and hit him in the face Tuesday. gainst the NHL’s top team with a fourth line that included Paul Bissonnette and AHL call-ups Andrew Ebbett and Brett MacLean, may have to go that route again.

“If you look at the lineup we’ve put on the board before the game and say ‘This is just going to go smooth and here we go,’ that’s not the way it works,” Phoenix coach Dave Tippet said. “We have to find ways to win, and it’s about tweaking things and finding a line that will work. Injuries are part of what happens. It’s just unfortunate.” recommend directory: Pavel Datsyuk #13 Detroit Red Wings Red NHL Jersey.

The Coyotes squandered an early 2-0 lead against Vancouver, but grabbing three of four points against the cream of the Western Conference — they rallied from three goals down to beat Detroit on Saturday — was important for a team that had lost five straight and was in danger of falling out of the Western Conference’s top eight. Even so, the Coyotes enter Thursday’s game in eighth place and need a win to keep pace with the tight pack fighting for spots.

Needing offense from unexpected sources, the Coyotes got a goal and 2 assists from Eric Belanger against the Canucks. It was Belanger’s first three-point game in more than a year, dating to Dec. 28, 2009, when he was with the Minnesota Wild. Belanger, who has 3 goals and 6 points in his last 10 games, now has 20 assists this season — four away from a career high and just two away from 200 in his career.

The Flames endured injury problems early in the season, but have gotten healthy at the right time. Wednesday’s 4-3 shootout win at Dallas moved them to 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, and 81 points puts them in a fight for not only a playoff spot but home-ice advantage in the first round.

“They are a hard-working team and they come at you,” Tippett said of the Flames. “They have found their groove and are playing with a lot of confidence and finding people in the right roles. We’re without some of our top players and we have to have the young guys step up and help us pick up points.”  recommend directory:  Steve Yzerman #19 Detroit Red Wings Red NHL Jersey.

Garden memories special for van Riemsdyk

March 5th, 2011 No comments

Every player remembers the first time they played on the hallowed ice at Madison Square Garden.

For Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk, his memories are a bit more meaningful than most.

“I played my first organized hockey game there, when I was like 6 years old,” van Riemsdyk told NHL.com. “I scored my first goal in organized hockey there. It’s a special place for me to go there.”where to buy cheap NHL Jerseys?ujersy is a good choice.

laying for the American Eagles, based out of Wall, N.J.

“It was us against the Nassau County Lions,” he said. “We played a game beforehand then we went to a Rangers-Devils game afterward.”

Van Riemsdyk remembers most details of that day, especially his goal.

“I was on a breakaway and I took a shot — it was mites, so I didn’t really lift it — I just went in his five hole,” van Riemsdyk said. “I still remember it pretty vividly. I have the puck, the blade and the sti

ck.”

Not every player has that kind of an MSG memory, but the building known as the World’s Most Famous Arena still has an allure to it unmatched by almost any other place.

“Anytime you go in New York, the city is pretty cool,” Flyers All-Star forward Claude Giroux told NHL.com. “Just walking down in Times Square is cool. Then you go into Madison Square Garden, so much stuff was played there. It’s pretty special. I remember my first game playing there was pretty unbelievable.

Title › Garden memories special for van Riemsdyk

Added Flyers captain Mike Richards: “I love playing in New York. The atmosphere is great. They always seem to play their best at home and it brings out our best in our team. It’s a fun place to play, fun place to be, not only for the game but just the atmosphere around you gives you that much more energy. I think that comes right in to the hockey rink.” recommend directory: Dion Phaneuf #3 Toronto Maple Leafs third blue NHL  Jaersey.

The players will have their chance to create new MSG moments when the Flyers travel north on the New Jersey Turnpike to visit the Rangers in Sunday’s NBC NHL Game of the Week (12:30 p.m. ET).

Games between the Flyers and Rangers almost always are intense, hard-hitting affairs, going back to the dawn of the rivalry in the 1967-68 season, the Flyers’ first season. The Flyers have won 51 of their 130 games against the Rangers at MSG, with 51 losses, 23 ties and five overtime defeats. They’re 10-10 in 20 playoff games there.

“There’s just something about it,” veteran Flyers forward Jody Shelley told NHL.com of the rivalry. “The old Philadelphia Flyers — it’s always gong to be a hard game. You have that feeling when you come into Philly and you know when they come into New York the fans are going to be pumped up. You’re going to be pumped up. It’s one of those old-school games. It’s just a fun rival and there are those games you get extra amped up for. Philly was always definitely one of them.”

Shelley has seen both sides of the rivalry, having ended the 2009-10 season with the Rangers prior to signing with the Flyers last summer.

Being with the Rangers last season, however, meant Shelley was part of one of the most memorable games in the teams’ rivalry — last season’s regular-season finale in Philadelphia. Shelley scored the Rangers’ lone goal in that one; however, Matt Carle scored in the third to tie it, and then Giroux scored the shootout winner. Coincidentally, Giroux and Shelley are next-door neighbors in the Flyers’ locker room at the Wells Fargo Center.

That final-day win propelled the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Final, while Shelley got an unwanted early start to his summer.

“It was a pretty special moment for the whole team,” said Giroux. “It was pretty exciting. Going back to the last game, the shootout, you dream about that, to be able to be the guy in the shootout. It was pretty special.”

While Sunday’s game won’t reach the intensity level of last April’s meeting, it’s still Flyers-Rangers and it’s still Madison Square Garden. And, there are still playoff implications aplenty.

“It’s a lot easier to get ready for the games,” said Giroux. “We don’t like the Rangers and I don’t think they really like us, either. It just makes for good games. The intensity goes up another level. It’s more like a playoff game, for sure.” recommend directory: Phil Kessel #81 Toronto Maple Leafs third blue NHL Jersey

There is nothing quite like the action that the NHL brings us night in and night out. When you combine that with an outdoor rink, the game becomes that much more exciting. Hockey players all over the world grew up playing ice hockey outdoors, so when an NHL game is played in a n outdoor rink, it brings back all sort of childhood memories, not too mention more exciting and passionate hockey.
