Football Conditioning Drills for 4th Quarter Dominance

June 23rd, 2011 No comments

Football Conditioning Drills to Kill It for 4-Quarters
Football conditioning is the key to becoming a dominant football player. The type of conditioning drills you choose is critical! Simply put, most guys waste their time on ineffective football conditioning drills and workouts. They jog, they run around cones, but they never actually build real-world conditioning…the type that actually helps on the football field.

If you are jogging, you might just see a 277lb man spriniting afte

r you…that man will me be…and I will find you no matter when you are!

Seriously, conditioning for football is not about running distances, jogging or the horribly untrue “aerobic base”

Most of what we do involves sprinting as a means of conditioning for football. But, many times we can’t get outside because of weather (sprinting in the snow can be dangerous – one slip and crack goes the ACL). And, since spring and summer are when we do most of our conditioning work, we need to have

Terms

at least one type of workout planned for indoors so that we don’t lose a valuable day of conditioning.

1. Football Conditioning Exercise – Front Squats, Swings, Lunge

This is a good conditioning workout for when you’re stuck indoors.

Grab two dumbbells or kettlebells.

Now, clean them to the sshoulders and quickly knock out 5 front squats.

Then, go right into 5 swings.

Finally, do 5 lunges.

Rest 25-seconds and repeat

2. Football Conditioning #2 – Prowler Drive and Sprint

Category › Football

Title › Football Conditioning Drills for 4th Quarter Dominance

This one is excellent for linemen, line backers and running backs.

Load up a Prowler or sled with a fairly heavy weight.

Drive the sled or Prowler for 3 – 10 yards, then immediately release it, and sprint either forward, laterally or on an angle.

You can shuffle sideways then sprint as well.

Walk back to the sled and repeat.

Vary the distance of the push and the sprint.

Football Conditioinng Exercise #3 – Hill Sprints

This is simple. Find a hill and sprint up it.

This is hard work and it hammers the quads, glutes and hamstrings. Plus, because of the angle of the hill, even guys with poor running form can safely run without fear of injury.

Start off with 5 sprints up the hill (the total distance should be 25 – 50yds. Eventually, build up to 10 – 12 sprints.

Navy Midshipmen Football – Playing For the Love of the Game

June 19th, 2011 No comments

The United States Naval Academy sponsors numerous varsity sports that participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) under Division I-A, which is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics. Both men’s and women’s teams are called Navy Midshipmen. They are also known as “Mids” and are under the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision independent schools that are four-year institutions whose football programs are not part of an NCAA-affiliated conference.

Having

won the National Championship in 1926, Navy football can boast 19 players and 3 coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame. The most traditional and enduring interservice rivalry is the annual Army-Navy Game that is nationally televised. Instant replay made its debut in 1963 during the Army-Navy game. Since 1890 these two rivals have been playing for bragging rights to claim who is the better branch of the armed forces.

Since many midshipmen will serve in the military after graduation,

few of them will ever play in the NFL. One of the few exceptions was Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach who not only was named MVP of Super Bowl VI, but was inducted to the Hall of Fame. Although others have been able to play professionally, Navy football is mostly about playing for the love of the game. Wartime makes these games more emotional especially for the seniors who will be playing their last competitive football game and who may not return once they are deployed overseas.

Each season the triangular college football series between the United States Military Academy (Army), the United States Naval Academy (Navy), and the United States Air Force Academy (Air Force) is played and the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy is awarded to the winner. First awarded in 1972, Navy has had possession of the prestigious trophy from 2003 to 2010, the longest time for any academy. Another independent, Notre Dame, has played against Navy in 84 consecutive annual games since 1927. In 2007 Navy beat Notre Dame 46-44 in triple overtime ending the Fighting Irish’s forty-three successive winning streak over them.

Other rivalries include the in-state Crab Bowl Classic against Maryland. Even though the two teams have played sporadically over the years, Navy leads the series 14-7. Navy’s oldest active football rival since 1891 is Rutgers University. The U.S. Naval Academy also plays against Southern Methodist University for the Gansz Trophy. Created in 2009 through collaboration between their athletic departments, the trophy is named after a former Naval Academy linebacker, Frank Gansz.

The U.S. Naval Academy’s mascot is Bill the Goat. For centuries Navy ships sailed with livestock which often included goats. They used them not only for milk and butter, but goats were useful in eating garbage and other undesirable food. A live goat named El Cid, a gift to the Brigade of Midshipmen from officers of the USS New York, made his mascot debut during an 1893 Army-Navy Game. Navy defeated Army 6-3 and El Cid was adopted as part of the team. Although other mascots like two cats, a bulldog, a gorilla, and a carrier pigeon were used during that time as well, since 1904 the goat has served as official mascot.

The Navy’s fight song is “Anchors Aweigh” composed in 1906 by Charles A. Zimmerman and played by the United States Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps during games. The home field of the Navy Midshipmen football team is the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium near the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The stadium serves as a memorial to the Navy and Marine Corps and dedicated to all those who have served and who currently serve and uphold the traditions of the Navy and Marine Corps. Thousands of memorial plaques are displayed in honor and remembrance of battles since the early 1900s involving the Naval and Marine Corps.

Risks Facing the Russia World Cup 2018

June 13th, 2011 No comments

The concept of project/event management is a sensitive task that requires expertise and devotion. In the case of major world events like the world cups and Olympic Games, there is great need for the host countries to undertake profound preparations so as to ensure success of the events (Heerkens 2007, p 72). Over the years, major world events have been faced with different risks in the preparation process, staging of the event as well as after the completion of the event. These risks a

re either natural or human initiated risks, which can be efficiently countered. For instance, terrorism attacks, racism, infrastructural failures and financial crises among other risks have faced major world events. These risks have led to failure of successful execution of the events alongside significant damage to property. Deaths and injuries have also been reported in major world events, hence calling for adequate preparations so as to ensure the risks do not occur. Russia’s bid for the 201

Despite this report’s acknowledgement for an overall medium risk level in Russia’s 2018 world cup, it’s evident that a number of risks are facing the event(Wheeler & Sabey 2010, p 1). This paper will provide a profound a critical analysis of the risks that Russia 2018 world cup will be exposed and the counter measures to manage them.

Operational risks
To begin with, the operational risks in Russia have been ranked to be very high. This is in relation to the fact that Russia is not fully developed, hence having poor infrastructure. For instance the transportation and communication plan of Russia are very poor. This phenomenon poses a high transportation and communication crisis. This will definitely have adverse impacts on the world cup event thus leading to its failures. With regard to the high number of people expected to attend the event, the infrastructural plan of Russia will not be able to cater for the needs of all people. These poor transport plan will definitely cause accidents among other inconveniences, thus negatively affecting the event (Hardt 2003, p 213).

The air traffic in Russia is also overlaid by numerous problems, whereby it will not be able to accommodate the increased traffic. Russia’s air transport is to up to date hence failing to meet global standards. A report by FIFA has indicated an overwhelming air transport crisis in Russia. This will definitely cause adverse effects to the world cup event. Since people will be expected from all corners of the globe during the event, a lot of inconveniences are likely to erupt (Markova 2008, p 145). The issue of delays in the airports will definitely occur hence affecting the smooth staging and execution of the different events of the world cup. Poor air transport infrastructure will also pose the people attending the world cup to severe risks of accidents. This is in relation to the small capacity of the airports and air strips. The reports conducted by FIFA officials have also shown a deteriorating status of the airports and airstrips, thus creating avenues for accidents and inconveniences (Markova 2008, p 145).

Reports by FIFA have also shown that the training venues and team hotels are adequate as alongside being substandard. Most of the hotel and training venues do not comply with FIFA’s standards and agreements. This poses severe operational crisis that may obstruct the successful execution of the event. In this regard, the participants of the event as well as FIFA will be exposed to unnecessary and excessive pricing thus causing inconveniences (Sagramoso 2004, p 27). The teams and FIFA officials participating in the vent may be required to seek accommodation and transportation from neighboring countries. This will definitely trigger the budgets of all participants, hence leading to inefficiency of the whole event. This phenomenon demonstrates a severe human initiated crisis that will affect the successful preparation, staging and completion of the event (Sagramoso 2004, p 27).

From another perspective, Russia remoteness and vastness in reference to other countries also exposes the world cup event to severe risks. Despite that the country is very vast in terms of geographical setup; it is not well linked with good transport network. There is an overwhelming limitation of high speed rail network, th

Need to know things of football in UK

April 21st, 2011 No comments

There is widespread participation in sports in Britain. Football, the most popular sport in England as well as Europe, has its traditional home in England where it was developed in the 19th century. For those of you who are not from England yet love the best league, i.e. premier league. Here is something we should know. The country is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But it seems the league is just played in the Great Britain part. Like Bale is not in

the league but he is in the England national football team. Speaking of which, their national anthem is God Save the Queen. There is three political division on Great Britain, namely England, Scotland and Wales. London being its capital city yet is not that prominent in football world not like Manchester. Britain has a very favorable climate which may be why their has sleeves whe reas the players’ uniforms in NB don’t. The climate is called maritime climate, which means winters are not too col

d and summers are not too hot. Not to mention its steady reliable rainfall throughout the whole year. And sometimes they don’t cancel a match just because it’s raining! Although in this season the 2011 winter snow did the league some trouble. But even though the north Atlantic drifts passes the western coast of the British Isles and warms them, so I guess it’s not that cold.

Britain has a population of about 62 million and most of them are football fans. And they differ after their ancestor

s. The ancestors of the English are Anglo-Saxons and the Scots, Welsh and Irish are Celts. It is said they difference in character so you might want to know not to bet against. The Welsh are emotional and cheerful people. They are music lovers and are proud of their past. They may not behave badly even after their team lost. The Scots are said to be a serious, cautious and thrifty people, so maybe they will Premier League Shirts save their money and not spent it placing bets. They are also said to be hospitable, generous and friendly. Maybe they will throw a house party and sit around watching matches live on TV. The Irish are charm and vivacity. But this is just some general research and may not apply to individuals. Also they tall differently, southerners speak the type of English close to what we call BBC English whereas in northern England regional speech is usually broader. Like all teams are comprised of people from different nations, the origin of the nation is also broad.

By the way, players often injured and Britain being a welfare state is really helping. Not that any famous stars have trouble paying but it’s good for normal football lovers. The system is funded out of national insurance contributions and taxation. In Britain the term applies mainly to the national heath service which provides Man U Kitsfor every resident, regardless of income, a full range of medical services. The service was established in the United Kingdom in 1948 and over 82 percent of the cost of the health service in Great Britain is funded out of general taxation. I don’t remember seeing any footballer wearing glasses though and do u know that sight test is free to children. The National Health Service is the largest single employer of labour in UK. It has suffered from under funding in recent Rooney shirt decades, as a result many better-off people have been turning to private medical health care. So it is not likely for people to just run into some superstar in a hospital.

Peter DeGeorge and the 2011 Palmyra Panthers Outlook

April 13th, 2011 No comments

One of the most consistent programs in the State of New Jersey for the past decade has been the Palmyra Panthers. The Panthers, who are routinely fighting for both a spot in the state playoffs and the conference championship, always rely heavily on the development of new student athletes who are always able to make a contribution on the field early in their Panther careers.

This year one of the biggest contributors to the team will likely be Peter DeGeorge. DeGeorge will enter the up

coming football season as a junior for the Panthers. Last season Peter DeGeorge filled in admirably for the Panthers as the team went on to win 7 games and lose just 3 as they went on their way to make the state playoffs. Throughout the year the Panthers had several lopsided victories over conference opponents such as Riverside, Maple Shade, and Burlington City.

While the team eventually lost in the state playoffs to Keyport by a score of 35 to 20, returning players such as Peter DeGeorge giv

Peter DeGeorge, who wears number 8 for the Panthers, will enter training camp with the ability to compete for a starting position on both sides of the ball. Last season Peter DeGeorge played on the varsity roster as a sophomore as

he backed up both the starting quarterback and linebacker. At five feet, nine inches tall and nearly 170 pounds, Peter DeGeorge has the size, quickness, and speed to confuse the opposition on both sides of the ball.

Last season Peter DeGeorge was quite successful when he did get his opportunity on the field. DeGeorge accumulated a total of three tackles when playing on the defense and on the offensive side of the ball he made one carry for four yards. If DeGeorge fares well in camp he could easily see his statistical achievements and on the field time increase dramatically. DeGeorge could also see some time as the team kicker and punter next season. Last year during a game against New Egypt High School, Peter DeGeorge filled in as the extra point specialist and made one extra point. He also did the kickoffs during three games towards the end of the season.

Beyond Peter DeGeorge the Palmyra Panthers will have plenty of returning talent. This includes their star running back Alonzo Sadler. Last year Sadler ran for 900 yards, scored 7 touchdowns, and was named the team Most Valuable Player. Wide Receiver Nick Cannizaro is also returning and should compete for a position on the All-Conference team. Last year Cannizaro caught 29 passes, had 567 receiving yards, and scored 8 times.

Youth Football: Seasonal System Evaluations

March 31st, 2011 No comments

Football can be described in two simple terms: Power and Finesse. Whatever your philosophy is in the game of football these two terms are important in determining your on field success. In fact, if your team has both elements to it, power and finesse, chances are that your success on the football field will be great. On the other hand, on field success can be good with just one of these elements. A team built on finesse such as speed and athletic ability can be successful. On the same

token a team built on power such as size and strength can also have the same success on the football field.

But what if you had to choose one or the other? Which way would you go? Would your present football system enhance either power or finesse or would they struggle?

For example, what if your youth football team was not gifted with size and strength but was gifted with speed and athletic ability? Would your football systems reflect their strengths? Or, what if your football team wer

We all have our favorite offence and defense that we know and love to run. For the most part, it’s probably the same football systems we learned back in high school. We know it inside and out, know how to adjust and tweak it and it’s easy for our football players to grasp. But ask yourself this question: Is my football system the right one for my

football team to thrive in, or does my system put them in a position that based on what they bring to the table, they will fail?

This is a common situation for all new football coaches to consider. It’s very important that as a youth football coach we evaluate our team’s strengths and weaknesses. This can be done in spring training if you run one, or in summer training camp. The worst thing you can do as a football coach is to place them in a system that they don’t have the ability to thrive in just because it’s your personal favorite system.

It has to be the system that suits their strengths!

t’s quite possible that the football system you liked, and the playbook you developed and studied inside and out all winter including all blocking assignments, may not be the one suited for your football team. So be prepared to change or tweak that football philosophy in order to enhance your player’s strengths. One of the common questions I get a lot from a lot of people is: Are you going to run that 3-4 championship defense again this year coach? I always respond with” I’m not yet sure, I’ll know once we get into our training camp”. Usually, I get the dumbfounded look at this point. The main point is, to be prepared to change your systems from season to season and it’s truly based on what strengths and skills your players have and not on the successful football systems you had the season before!

Cheers!

10 College Football Handicapping Tips

1) Favor large favorites in the first few weeks of the season.
Past History says so.
Power Ratings are based of “average performance” The better teams get psyched to play the inferior teams in the first few weeks and therefore are able to raise there level of play while the inferior team cannot regardless of their anticipation.

2) Be Quick on Week 2
After Week 1, there will be several teams that played better than their power ratings, meaning that the covered the spread by a wide margin, or those who played worse than their power ratings, meaning that they failed to cover by a wide margin. This is an opportunity for

4) Matchups! Matchups! Matchups!
Finding Matchup advantages is a great way to find an edge verse other bettors. The simple approach of comparing offensive and defensive rushing and passing statistics is good, but you must go deeper.
You will many experts analyzing speed verse strength, but the most important matchup to consider is at the line of scrimmage. You must do your homework to understand the strengths and weakness of the offensive and defensive lines. For example, one offensive line may be very strong at preventing bull rushing attack but may be vulnerable to speedy defensive lines. What are they facing this week? These are just a few of questions you must answer when looking at matchups.

5) Energy
The energy and focus that a college football team puts on each week is a great determinant of the final outcome. Unlike the NFL where teams show up with great effort each week because their job and compensation depends on it, college football players are 18-22 year old students who have responsibilities and limited practice time to get prepared. Automatically, “getting up” or being focused for every gay is not possible. Many college coaches will tell you that they cannot get their team to be completely focused and energized more than 3 or 4 times a year. With this said, handicapping the energy and focus level that a team will play with each week is as important as the talent differentials of the teams. www.collegefootballbreakdown.com devotes a section of the website called Team Intensity Team Intensity which analyzes the expected energy and focus that a team will give forth. There are several factors that go into the number and with our experience, JJ Beatz and Yonkers Phil are able to use this to our advantage when making picks.

6) Be Dynamic! Take advantage of Mid-Season Team Improvements
Most betters have 9 to 5s and do not have the time to follow every nuance of each team. Opinions on team’s power ratings are formed in the first 4 or 5 weeks when betters are expressly interested in gauging the talent levels. This opinion tends to be burned into the casual bettors mind. They feel that there work is done and they do not have to continue to gauge talent level. This is an opportunity for a smart handicapper to take advantage of teams who are making improvements and who are benefitting from weak Vegas Power Rating. Be dynamic with your opinions. You might just discover a team that has been written off but one that covers 4 or 5 straight. www.CollegeFootballBreakdown.com’s staff is always on the lookout for these type of mid-season turnaround stories who can cash in for you.

7) Bet against teams with inferior defenses on the road.
