The FIFA World Cup Finals tournament will take place in South Africa in June and July 2010, and will attract a TV audience of billions; all following their favourite team’s progress in the world’s biggest football tournament.

Taking place every four years, the FIFA World Cup Finals tournament starts with a group stage involving 32 countries split into eight groups, each consisting of four teams. The first and second placed teams from each group progress to the second round knock-out

As South Africa is host for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals, their football team receive automatic qualification into the tournament. They are the only team to earn free entry to the tournament as even existing world champions Italy – who lifted the trophy in Germany in 2006 – had to qualify. The remaining 30 countries have also all undergone a two-year qualification process; competing against other teams from the same conti

nent to earn their place in the final tournament.

During the 2010 tournament the majority of people in England will have their attention will be on Group C, which as well as containing the Three Lions also contains Algeria, Solvenia and the USA. That draw has led to many believing that England has a better chance of progressing to the knock-out stage than ever before. Indeed, the chance of England going all the way has prompted many who would have been quite happy in previous years to be armch

The NFL try outs have been around for decades a tradition that seems to not have any end in sight. Year after year we watch as young men put on display the amount of potential that they “Potentially” have in their young bodies. It takes heart, determination, guts, and a never ending and unbreakable will. This inner strength is what drives true athletes it is what picks them up when they fall, it is what will drive them forward through a usually unbearable pain. For now the only thing we have to test a player is the try outs but I hope one day their will be a way to test a player that goes beyond their physical toughness and will test their will to win at all cost because this is what can separate a player from a champion and what separates the man from the number.

the sport. Times like these are what truly make sports great because under all the flash and cameras is the mark of true warriors who do not know the word quit, do not know the meaning to give in. For guts and glory they will stand and while doing so they set an example for the rest of us, death before defeat and a refusal to loose even when there is no other possible out come.That is what makes a true fan display the colors of his team.

As of yesterday, WR Donte Stallworth has been signed to the Baltimore Ravens. Just in case you aren’t familiar with the story, here’s a little recap. On March 14, 2009, Donte Stallworth struck a pedestrian in his Bentley in Miami Beach, Florida. The victim was a 59 year old Mario Reyes. After investigating, the police came to find out that Stallworth’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was .12, over the nationwide legal limit of .08. Stallworth claimed that Reyes was not in a designated cr

osswalk when crossing the street and that he tried to flash his lights in an attempt to warn Reyes. It is clear, however, that any man facing such charges would make claims such as these in an attempt to persuade of innocence. Stallworth was charged with a DUI and second degree manslaughter. His sentence was 30 days in jail beginning July 10, 2009. Of this 30 day sentence, Stallworth served 24 days. He now has a one year $900,000 contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

I understand that this discu

ssion is like beating a dead horse, however I must make the comparison of Donte Stallworth to Michael Vick. On dog fighting allegations, Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison. During this time, Vick lost a large deal of his fortune, and was even forced to claim bankruptcy. Also, he was incarcerated shortly after the birth of his daughter. The punishment of Michael Vick unfairly punished his family as a result. In the case of Donte Stallworth, the only person hurt was innocent Mario R

eyes who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My argument is not that Michael Vick should have received less of a sentence because dogs are not important. My argument is that Stallworth should have received a harsher punishment. What kind of message do we send to our children when we say that a dog’s life is more important than a human’s life? Also, if the NFL truly cared about role models for children, they would not have reinstated either of these players.

In retrospect, “headfirst” was probably an unwise strategy, considering that football heads like Reeves’ were not yet helmeted. In what was the sport’s infancy, players actually believed they could protect their heads simply by growing their hair long.

Few got haircuts in-season. Many got concussions.

Reeves, who like Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, IL, must have had thin hair. He was knocke

d out so frequently that late in that 1893 season a Naval Academy physician warned him the next could result in death or “instant insanity.”

While deaths weren’t uncommon in a football era so brutally violent the sport would nearly kill itself, insanity was something else. The prospect of a nutty Naval officer at the helm of an American battleship, the first of which was then under construction at U.S. navy yards, was not something the academy superintendent could condone.

So even thou

gh the fourth annual meeting with Army was next on Navy’s schedule, Capt. Robert L. Phythian summoned the 21-year-old to his office. “Reeves, my good man,” he told the senior, “I cannot in good conscience allow you to play in the upcoming game with Army.”

But Bull Reeves, who though he failed to recognize the peril of persistent head injuries did foresee the value of aircraft carriers, possessed the resourcefulness of a future officer. The future admiral sought out an Annapolis cobbler and asked him to create a head-protector out of moleskin.

The result looked like something Attila the Hun might have worn to a pillaging party – as conical as it was comical. Even so, the odd-looking device satisfied Phythian. Reeves starred in a 6-4 Navy victory and the football helmet, though it wouldn’t become mandatory for nearly a half-century, was born.

In the decades since Reeves preserved his playing status and presumably his sanity, helmets have undergone constant and considerable changes. Physicians, trainers, engineers, pilots and coaches all have tried to perfect them. Straps were added, then padding. In the late 1940s, the switch began from leather to molded plastic. Facemasks were soon incorporated and later air-cushioning devices.

Today’s state-of-the-art helmets are as shiny, sleek and handsome as sports cars. They cost hundreds of dollars apiece. They are effective marketing devices, with tens of thousands sold annually not just to teams, but to collectors and obsessive fans as well.

And yet, as is illustrated by the problems Philadelphia’s Westbrook, Washington’s Clinton Portis and at least a dozen other players have endured this season, head injuries continue to be a major headache for the NFL.

By the league’s own estimate, there are 120 to 130 concussions a season – a number a recent Associated Press survey suggests may be vastly underreported. “Guys today are a lot bigger, a lot faster than they used to be,” said Sam Huff, the Redskins broadcaster and former linebacker. “The game is violent and it’s always going to be.”

That rationale doesn’t help much in a hyper-litigious era. So Commissioner Roger Goodell ruled recently that no player suffering a concussion will be permitted to return to action. Players are also under increasing pressure to sit out the game after their injury.

\”Once removed for the duration of a practice or game,” Goodell’s memo reads, “the player should not be considered for return-to-football activities until he is fully asymptotic, both at rest and after exertion, has a normal neurological examination, normal neuropsychological testing, and has been cleared to return by both his team physician(s) and the independent neurological consultant.\”

Prince or the artist formerly known as or whatever his new name is just wrote a new song for his hometown team. NBA NEWS The NBA has announced the starters for the 2010 ALL STAR game that will be held at the new Dallas Cowboy stadium. However, the great potential of Adams to become a certified NFL star got halted when he unexpectedly died of cardiac arrest inside his house morning of January 17.
Adams according to the autopsy had an enlarged heart that lead to his death due to a heart attack.
Family, friends, an

d teammates of Adams expressed sadness and surprise on the death of Adams since they have no idea that the NFL star had such kind of ailment.
The whole NFL organisation lead by its commissioner Roger Goodell already sent its condolence and prayers to the family of Adams who are grieving on the death of their beloved kin.
After being drafted as four overall pick in the NFL draft in 2007, Adams has showed potential of becoming a superstar in the league while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers an

d recently to the Bears.
In 47 games over three seasons with the Bears and Buccaneers, Adams had 67 tackles, including 13.5 sacks.
Players and coaches from both Buccaneers and Bears expressed sadness on the death of Adams saying the late NFL player had not reached his full potential when he suddenly died.
NFL players and coaches were unified in saying Adams is a great player and teammates who will be missed badly by the league for the years to come.
