The betting and spot fixing scandal that has got Pakistani cricket trapped badly into a big whirlpool can only end if the culprits are seriously punished and the team would be cleaned up with all the ugly members that have brought this shame to the nation. Right now only few have been identified but considering the interview of Yasir Hameed the member of the squad who was kept away from the team for unknown reason, the need for stronger action against the guilty players is now more impor

tant than anyother thing.

This scandal is unfolding many things with every passing moment, but the attitude of our High Commissioner at UK seems irresponsible and beyond understanding. Everybody knows that betting, gambling and practices like these are always done very carefully without leaving the trace behind. You can assess the situation through circumstantial evidences but pulling out a concrete proof is always a difficult thing to do. We are presently more focused on throwing mud on the re

porter who digged this story out with all its ugliness but we are still unable to accept that our players did that. Many times in the past the unbelievable performances by the team raised questions for many. Many matches were identifed and have been called suspicious but few more are to be noted to arrive at any conclusion.

Not to forget Pakistan’s T20 Semi Final against Australia in West Indies this year. Although Pakistani batsmen put on an exquisite fight but it was the bowlers who swept th

e match away from the hands. The second last over of the match was the turning point in my opinion when Mohammad Aamir gave away 16 valuable runs with the bowling that did not match his class. That over squeezed the target to the reach of Michael Hussey and in the final over the match was lost by Pakistan. Aamir’s doubtful attitude was a big question but was ignored as Saeed Ajmal’s bowling was receiving big criticism at that time. When Yasir Hameed revealed that every match is fixed, that really shocks everybody.

One can say that other teams would now show reluctance in playing with our team when they will begin to believe that our cricket players are not serious in healthy contest but are more interested to meet the requirements of the bookies.

When I see the attitude of our local media and many critics who are throwing different arguments on this scam, I must say that the betting and matchfixing scandals have been the part of our team since long. Our key players like Wasim, Waqar and even Saeed Anwar were involved in that when we closely examine the report of Justic Qayyum. It is always dissappointing to note that players like Miandad, Asif Mujtaba, Younis Khan, Asim Kamal, Rashid Latif, Fawad Alam and Abdul Razzak were treated the insulting way by our Cricket highups only because these players were loyal to the nation and they don’t get fit into the frame of mind of those operating the matters of our Cricket. This scam if not investigated seriously will lead to eventual exit of Pakistani cricket from international arena in a most shameful way.

Our Parliament’s standing committe on Sports was highly critical on the matters of Cricket and was quite vocal since past few months. I laud their efforts but their screams were in vain when the President of Pakistan who is the Patron in Chief of Cricket Board is himself not serious in fixing the things, then who will come for rescue, The Angels?? The person who is the present Chairman of the PCB had himself played mere 8 test matches with an unimpressive 19 runs average. He happens to be the close relative of the Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, who is infact a close aide of the President of Pakistan. When the merit is already sacrificed in selection of the officials just to fulfil the black desire, then it would be better that we should not play cricket with the international teams anymore. If you ask a common Pakistani, he would point finger towards our President because without his consent, our players would have not jumped into this shameful game of betting. Javed Miandad recently met the President and informed him about the wrong doings in the PCB, but sources revealed that the President straight away refused to remove the present officials despite knowing completely about their involvement in match fixing and spot fixing.
