Yosemite National Park is our country’s most famed national treasure, rich in both history and beauty. It’s got dozens of matchless meadows and more than a hundred lakes, plus waterfalls as tall as a 200-story building, trees the size of rocket ships, mountains the size of – well, mountains – and even a few beaches. It’s bigger than a handful of European countries and almost the size of Rhode Island.

thusiastic day hike. The National Park Service estimates a descent of 3,200 feet that takes six hours to complete. The trail is not all downhill. However, and hikers who attempt the Panorama Trail should be aware that it’s strenuous, specifically in winter when the route receives considerable snow. Late spring and early summer offer the best days for hiking the Panorama Trail: snow melted provides ample water sources along the trail and swells the rivers and waterfalls, which are at their peak at that time of a year.
The Panorama Trail starts with a series of downhill switchbacks. The Merced River and its two waterfalls, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls, are shortly in view, and the more secluded but thundering Illilouette Falls becomes visible soon after. Half Dome is never out of sight, but it’s well-known face quickly disappears, giving way to views of the dome and saddle. Other noteworthy landmarks are Mount Starr King, Liberty Cap, and North Dome, which can be seen throughout the descent to Illilouette Creek. At the Panorama Trail 2-mile mark, a footbridge crosses Illilouette Creek, and hikers begin an 800-foot ascent over roughly 1.5 miles of switchbacks across the Panorama Cliffs.
Visitors to Yosemite National Park who wants to see more than just. What’s on the valley floor should plan to hike the Panorama Trail? This trail lives up to its name, and its unequalled views of Yosemite National Park landmarks will leave a lasting impression.
