In Group A, France are going to face the first WC winner Uruguay and Mexico (FIFA rank-4 in 2006, Elo rank-6 in 2005)­­– though not the toughest but one of the thought groups. France never got as much success as they deserved. It is controversial whether the cause is self-made or bad luck. A team that produces Zidane and Thierry like players should have got more trophy than they got. Nevertheless Zidane paid his debt somewhat by winning 1998 World Cup but Thierry is always accused of

being a club player rather than a national team player. This time Thierry seems more inform than ever. Despite reaching semifinal for five times, they managed themselves to kiss the cup for only once. Again in UEFA Euro 2000 France defeated Italy 2–1 in the final led by FIFA World Player of the Year Zidane, and for the first time a defending World Cup winner went on to win the Euro. Following the result, France were placed to the prestigious number one position in the FIFA World Rankings

 

In subsequent tournaments, France failed to maintain that speed. France shocked its supporter remaining goalless in the first round. One of the greatest accidents that World Cup history experienced was their defeat to new comer child Senegal (1-0) in the opening game of the tournament. This is the common problem of giant teams that they very often become irregular in their performance. Wish France not to prove it again!!!
