The Semi-final hockey game between Canada and Slovakia that will take place today is going to be a game to remember. Both team are solid this Olympics. The Canadian team got off to a shaky start against Switzerland however they went on to completely destroy Team Germany and more impressively, Team Russia. The Slovakian team has been winning as of late and their play could threaten the chance for Team Canada to win an Olympic Gold medal in hockey on home soil.

led with talent. Talented Montreal Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak has been solid in nets this Olympics leading the team to many victories. Backup Rastislav Stana is also a talent that could help if need be. On defence, Slovakia is a force to be reckoned with, mainly due to big name defenseman Zdeno Chara, who plays with the best in the NHL. He could cause a problem for Team Canada in this game. Handzus, Marcel Hossa, Marian Hossa,  Zigmund Palffy, Miroslav Satan, Jozef Stumpel and Richard Zednik, there is no shortage of scoring power on this team. While they might not be as well known as the Canadian players, make no mistake that this team will put up a fight and hit Roberto Luongo with everything they have.

Team Canada started off these Olympics struggling against team Switzerland and then losing to Team US

All of Canada thought all was lost and that there ws no chance at gold, however incredibly the Canadian team went on to destroy the competition the Next two games by blowing out Germany and then Hockey super power Russia.  With goaltender Roberto Luongo leading the way Canada is now on fire and players like Jarome Iginla and Rick Nash are heating up along with the infamous sharks line of Heatley, Marleau and Thornton. This team is a force to be reckoned with and they are the odds on favourite to take the Gold Medal if they can get by Slovakia without incident.

This game will be memorable. The winner will move on to face the winner of United States vs Finland in the Gold Medal game. The loser will have a chance at a bronze medal.  For the Canadians, anything but Gold is unacceptable as the Olympics are rarely hosted in Canada.
