The Race For The Top

Who said football was boring? This week we saw a full list of fixtures in the English Premiership and who could have predicted some of these results? West Ham beat the high flying Birmingham and in the process catapulting them up to 14 in the table. Wolves did the double over Spurs for the first time since 1954, with another 1-0 win. Spurs have been in the hunt for a Champions League spot but losing to a side in the relegation zone (before play) has not done them any favours.

hosted the inform battling Liverpool side fresh from victory at Everton, however it was the Gunners who licked their wounds after defeats to Chelsea and Man Utd and came up with a much needed win. Arsenal’s win was even more important because their title rivals Chelsea and Man Utd lost and drew respectively.

Chelsea were beaten by Everton who after a blip last time out showed the class that has put them on such an impressive run. Man Utd on the other hand were thankful for their second highes

ce Man Utd still have to play Liverpool and duke it out against each other at Old Trafford whilst Arsenal have played all of “Big 4″ and look like they have the easiest run in.

Ferguson has been here before and will be happy in the knowledge that even without Vidic and Ferdinand Utd have the second best defence in the Premiership and with the lethal Rooney they have a striker who is scoring goals for fun and even if the rest of the team pale in comparison to the Scouser Utd will push Chelsea all the way.

On the other hand Carlo Ancelloti has never won a trophy in England, however his European Trophy cabinate is practically second to none in the modern era. This Chelsea team has a lot of players, and important ones at that, who were part of the all conquering Jose Mourniho team of a few years ago. Even with Chelsea’s problems at dealing with set pieces they have still only conceded 22 goals this season and seeing as they’ve only lost two league games at home since before Jose Mourinho took over they will be a hard act to topple.

Man Utd have played by their standards have been very poor this season and have looked toothless too many times. But this year’s title race has seen more losses to the top four teams than in a long time. This season has been more of a rollercoaster than a classic and I predict this to continue. Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal will lose more games and with only 12 matches to go until the end of the season there is going to be some massively important moments. The difference is going to depend on who can keep their heads when those all around them are losing theirs.
