Monmouth Park was founded in 1870, closed from 1873 to 1881, reopened in 1882, and then shut down again when paramutuel betting was outlawed in New Jersey in 1894.  In 1946 Jersey made horse racing legal once again and Monmouth welcomed ove

r 18,000 racing fans what it came back to life after being dormant for more than half a century.

Monmouth Park is the home of several top stakes and handicap affairs, including a pair of Grade 1 races, the Haskell Invitational Handicap and the United Nations Stakes.  Monmouth also hosts the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes and several Grade 3 events including the Jersey Derby, the Monmouth Stakes, and the Longfellow Stakes.
